Travel Master is a comprehensive travel insurance protection that offers worldwide accident and hospitalization insurance benefits. It also covers Personal Liability, Recovery of Travel Expenses, Travel Inconvenience Benefit such as loss or baggage delay, Travel Assistance Benefits c/o Assist America and other value added features.

All Citi Cardholders with active Citi Cards who will require travel insurance protection can avail of Travel Master. Cardholders must be within 18 to 74 years old. Yes, each benefit covered in the policy is subject to individual benefit limits as stated in the schedule of benefits in the Benefits Tab, unless it is stated that coverage of the benefit is based on actual expense (i.e. stated as unlimited) of the Cardholder.

For your convenience, the premium will be charged to your nominated Citi Card at point of application and will be reflected as part of your total amount due in your next card statement from the date of your Travel Master purchase.

Your coverage will take effect starting on the departure date provided at the point of Travel Master application and will terminate on either of the following, whichever occurs first:

  1. Expiry of the coverage based on specified period in the certificate of coverage
  2. The insured's return to his/her place of residence or employment whichever occurs first
  3. The insured's travel reaching 90th day unless Malayan is informed of such extension, has accepted the advise, and the additional premium of the customer has been paid
  4. Within 2 hours after scheduled date of arrival.

The maximum coverage duration for Travel Master is 90 consecutive days per journey.

Yes, you may still extend your Travel Master coverage if you will extend your travel period. You may call Malayan Insurance at 242-8888242-8888 prior to expiry of the coverage.

You will receive your Certificate of Coverage on the date of your Travel Master purchase, provided the Travel Master premium is successfully charged to your nominated Citi Card at point of purchase. The Certificate of Coverage will be immediately sent to you via your nominated email by Malayan Insurance.

Yes, you may still cancel the Travel Master coverage. All notice of cancellation must be made in writing, mailed or delivered, to Malayan Insurance at the address shown in the Certificate of Coverage and shall state

  1. reason for cancellation, which must be among the acceptable reasons indicated in your Certificate of Coverage, and
  2. upon written request, the insured furnishes the facts or supporting evidence on which the cancellation is based.

The cancellation reasons which can be considered by Malayan Insurance are:

  • Non-payment of premium
  • Insured's conviction of a crime arising out of acts increasing the hazard insured against;
  • Discovery of fraud or material misrepresentation;
  • Discovery of willful or reckless acts or omissions increasing the hazard insured against;
  • Determination of the Insurance Commissioner that the continuance of the policy would violate or would place the Insurer in violation of the Insurance Code.

In the event you request for policy cancellation prior to the policy's inception, a policy cancellation fee equal to 50% of the premium will be charged, unless the insured provides a valid reason acceptable to Malayan Insurance for canceling the policy. The remaining 50% is refunded to the customer.

For Short Term travel policy with policy period 30 days and below If cancellation is requested 6 days and below after inception of cover - 80% of the premium will be charged.
If cancellation is requested 7 days and above after inception of cover - 100% of the premium will be charged.
For Short Term travel policy with policy period more than 30 days but less than 60 days If cancellation is requested 6 days and below after inception of cover - 80% of the premium will be charged.
If cancellation is requested 7 days up to 20 days after inception of cover - 90% of the premium will be charged.
If cancellation is requested 21 days and above after inception of cover - 100% of the premium will be charged.
For Short Term travel policy with policy period 60 days and above, but less than 90 days If cancellation is requested 6 days and below after inception of cover - 70% of the premium will be charged.

Terms and Conditions

SCOPE OF COVERAGE

  • The policy shall cover the Insured:
  • While anywhere outside the Philippines
  • While travelling as a fare paying passenger on board any type of conveyance while outside the Philippines
  • While on board any aircraft as a fare paying passenger within the Philippines
  • While on travel at least 100 miles away from registered place of residence

COMMENCEMENT OF COVERAGE

The policy is effective during the policy period specified in the scheduled travel period subject to a maximum of 90 days per any one trip or travel duration (unless the Insurer has been informed and has accepted). Cover takes effect (except for Coverage C, D, and G) from the time the insured leaves his place of work or residence with the intention of commencing the intended travel as per declared itinerary with the Insurer with the date stated in the scheduled travel period and expires on whichever of the following occurs first:

  1. The expiry of the policy period specified in the schedule
  2. The insured's return to his/her place of residence or employment, whichever occurs first
  3. The insured's travel reaching the 90th day unless previously declared to the Insurer and the latter signifies its acceptance and additional premium has been paid
  4. Within 2 hours after the scheduled time of arrival

ACCIDENTAL DEATH AND DISMEMBERMENT BENEFIT shall pay for the maximum sum assured of the policy for such benefit when the insured dies due to accident or suffers permanent disablement during covered travel period.

EXCLUSIONS FOR ACCIDENTAL DEATH, DISMEMBERMENT &/OR DISABLEMENT:

  1. Loss caused directly or indirectly, wholly, or partly or occasioned by: (1) bacterial infections, disease, or sickness; pregnancy or miscarriage; congenital anomalies or AIDS; (2) suicide or any attempt threat (sane or insane), insanity or alcoholism; (3) terrorism, war, invasion, act of foreign enemy, hostilities, or warlike operations (whether declared or not), civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, mutiny, military or usurped power, riot, civil commotion, strikes, military or popular uprising, or the use of weapon or instrument employing atomic fission or radioactive force, whether in time of peace or war; (4) landslide or cave-in of mines, earthquake, tidal wave, or volcanic eruption; (5) bodily injury which shall result in hernia; (6) ionizing radiations or contamination by radioactivity
  2. Loss while engaging in hunting, mountaineering, winter sports, ice hockey, football, scuba diving, ice or water skiing, yachting, racing of any kind, steeple chasing, polo playing
  3. Loss while participating in brawl, committing a crime, or making an arrest or a raid as an officer of the law;
  4. Loss while under orders of warlike operations or for restoration of public order; While the insured is serving the Armed Forces of any country or international authority whether in peace or war
  5. Loss while operating, learning to operate, or serving as crew member of an aircraft or vessel
  6. Loss caused by murder or assault or disappearance
  7. Any of the following persons:
    • Persons who are under the age of 7 years, or over the age of 65 years, or mentally incompetent or physically impaired
    • The following persons while performing their duties as such: Acrobats, Asylum Attendants, Aviators, Boilermen, Detectives, Divers, Explosive Makers, Firemen, Fishermen, Loggers, Miners, Policemen, Sailors, Sawmill Workers, Secret Service Personnel, Woodworking Machinists, Underground Workers and Window Cleaners, while performing their tasks as such.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TREATMENT

If within the policy period, the insured while on travel incurs reasonable expenses for emergency medical treatment of sickness or accidental injury occurring during the course of the travel, the Insurer will pay the insured up to the limit specified in the policy schedule all reasonable and customary charges in connection with that emergency medical treatment. Emergency medical treatment shall mean treatment by a legally qualified physician or surgeon, confinement within a hospital, employment of a licensed or graduate nurse, X-ray examination or the use of ambulance. It also covers necessary surgery, physician consultations, diagnostic tests, hospital services, and supplies, ambulance and paramedic services; visits to registered physicians and medicines prescribed.

The benefits under this Section include any amount advanced under the Hospital Deposits Guarantee (provided by Assist America Inc.) which the insured may be required to pay as a result of hospitalization covered under the policy.

EXCLUSIONS FOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL TREATMENT

  1. Congenital conditions of all kind and hernia unless caused by trauma during the period of insurance
  2. Psychotic, mental, or nervous disorder (including any neuroses and their physiological and psychosomatic manifestations)
  3. Convalescent or rehabilitation care
  4. Any and all conditions arising from surgical, mechanical, or chemical methods of birth control and any and all conditions or treatment pertaining to infertility
  5. Communication and transportation expenses other than medically necessary telecommunications and local ambulance / transportation services
  6. Treatment or service other than on the recommendation of physician
  7. Any sickness or injury due to travelling contrary to doctor's advice
  8. Pre-existing medical or physical condition or any condition arising from or contributed to by such pre-existing medical and physical condition
  9. Any treatment or sickness or injury on travel arranged primarily for the purpose of obtaining medical treatment
  10. Non-emergency medical treatment, routine care or examinations or health check-ups not incidental to the treatment or diagnosis of suspected sickness or injury sustained during the period of insurance
  11. Care or treatment for which payment is not required or which is payable by any other insurance or indemnity covering the insured
  12. Dental care and treatment except as necessitated by accidental injuries to sound natural teeth occurring during the period of insurance
  13. Charges in respect for special and private nursing except in the event of a medical evacuation being necessary
  14. Cosmetic surgery, eyeglasses and refraction or hearing aids, and prescriptions therefore except as necessitated by injuries occurring during the period of insurance
  15. The use of any drug (except as medically prescribed but excluding drug addiction) or being under the influence of intoxicating liquor

FOLLOW UP CARE

This coverage extends to cover medical expenses incurred in the Philippines or in the place of residence upon return from the Trip for the treatment of an accident or sickness which is caused by, resulting from, or incurred or contracted during the trip and all expenses must be incurred within 30 days from the date the insured person returns to his / her place of residence in the Philippines. Admission to the hospital must be within 12 hours after arrival and must be a continuation of medical attention sought while travelling.

STRIKES AND AIRCRAFT SKYJACKING

When the insured is prevented from reaching his scheduled destination as a result of strike (by airline or airport personnel) or aircraft hijacking, the Insurer shall pay the insured the amount stated in the schedule for every day of delay. The liability of the Insurer is up to a maximum of 10 days. Coverage starts following an uninsured grace period of 12 hours. The 12-hour waiting period shall start immediately after the original estimated time of arrival (ETA) of the aircraft plus any amount of time it was delayed in departing from its last point of origin.

BAGGAGE DELAY BENEFIT

In the event of delay of the insured's checked-in baggage, the Insurer will provide for the essential purchase of necessary clothing and toiletries. The liability of the Insurer is limited to the amount stated in the schedule of benefits and shall be established only after a waiting period of 12 hours after the aircraft's arrival at its destination and will be less any amount recoverable or paid by the airline company carrier. In no event will the Insurer be liable for delay due to detention or confiscation by Customs Authorities.

EXCLUSIONS (for Baggage Delay Benefit)

  1. For claims not declared to a competent person of the airline company as soon as the insured knows the baggage is late or lost
  2. For any clothing or toiletries that the insured purchased more than four days after the actual time of arrival at the airport of destination
  3. When the baggage delay occurs on the return journey to insured's normal domicile
  4. For purchases made after the delivery of insured's baggage by the air carrier

LOSS OF BAGGAGE

The Insurer shall indemnify the insured for the loss of his checked in baggage up to the amount stated in the schedule of benefits. The liability of the Insurer however will be less any amount recoverable from or paid by the airline company or carrier. Lost must occur (i) while the baggage is in possession of a common carrier/airline company and proof of such loss must be obtained in writing from the common carrier/airline company management and such proof must be provided to the Insurer, or (ii) as the result of theft of the baggage from the insured provided such loss is reported to the police having jurisdiction at the place of the loss no more than 24 hours from the incident. Any claim must be accompanied by written documentation from such police.

EXCLUSIONS (for Loss Baggage)

  1. Benefits will not be provided for any loss, theft, or damage to: animals, documents, identity papers, credit and payment cards, transport tickets, cash, travellers checks, bank notes, travel documents, negotiable instruments, bonds, stocks and securities, jewellery, keys
  2. No benefit will be provided for any loss, theft, or damage to skis, bicycles, sailboards, golf clubs, tennis rackets, and other sporting equipment except while checked in as baggage with a registered common carrier
  3. This cover will not pay for any loss, theft, or damage to automobiles and automobile equipment, motorcycles, trailers and caravans, boats, motors, and other means of transport (including accessories); equipment for professional use, musical instruments, objects of art, precious gemstones, china glasswares, porcelains, antiques, collector's items, furniture, eye glasses, contact lenses, hearing aids, prosthetic limbs, artificial teeth or dental bridges, perishables and consumables, baggage sent in advance or souvenirs and articles mailed or shipped separately, hired or leased equipment, business goods or samples, data recorded on tapes, cards, disc or otherwise
  4. Benefits will not be provided for any loss resulting in whole or in part from: wear and tear or gradual deterioration, insects or vermin; inherent vice or damage; transporting contraband or illegal trade; mysterious disappearance or unaccompanied baggage, losses arising from personal negligence or unexplainable disappearance; breakage of brittle or fragile articles, cameras, computers (including software and accessories), musical instruments, radios and similar property.

The insured cannot claim under the both benefits of Baggage Delay and Loss of Baggage for the same loss.

LOSS OF TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

The company will reimburse the insured up to the limit specified in the schedule in respect of reasonable additional hotel, travel and communication expenses necessarily incurred in the country (ies) visited in obtaining the replacement of a lost passport or visa. Provided that an insured shall exercise reasonable care for the safety and supervision of the property and that any loss of passport must be reported within 24 hours of the discovery. The policy does not cover lost traveller's checks.

FLIGHT DELAY

The policy will reimburse the insured up to the limit specified in the schedule if the insured's flight is delayed for more than 12 hours, for:

  1. Any prepaid, unused, non-refundable land or water accommodation
  2. Any reasonable expenses incurred in respect of meals and lodging which were necessarily incurred in respect of meals and lodging which were necessarily incurred as a result of the delay and which were not provided by the airline or any other party free of charge
  3. The cost of transfer to and from the airport

Only the following causes of delay shall be covered:

  1. Delay caused by severe weather conditions
  2. Delay due to strike or other job action of employees of the airline on which the insured is scheduled to travel
  3. Delay caused by the equipment failure of the aircraft on which the insured is scheduled to travel

This cover applies to normally scheduled airline flights.

RECOVERY OF TRAVEL EXPENSES

The policy shall reimburse the insured to recover travel expenses incurred in the event of Emergency Trip Cancellation or Emergency Trip Termination up to the limit stated in the policy schedule, provided emergency situation is related to an emergency situation of the insured or its immediate family member.

EXCLUSIONS (for Emergency Trip Cancellation)

  1. The first PhP500 of each and every claim per insured person
  2. Arising directly or indirectly as a result of government regulation or act; the failure or default of travel agent or tour operator or transport provider to provide any part of the booked journey or service; any unlawful act or criminal proceedings against the insured or of any person whom the journey plans depend on; the insured's disinclination to travel; the liquidation, bankruptcy or dissolution of the insured's company or the insured's financial difficulty; the insured's failure to notify the travel agent or tour operator or transport provider or accommodation immediately if is found necessary to cancel or curtail the travel arrangements
  3. Any claim when at the time of making the travel arrangements the insured is aware of any circumstances which might cause the journey to be cancelled
  4. Any loss that is covered by any other existing insurance scheme; government program or which will be paid or refunded by a hotel, airline, travel agent for any other travel and/or accommodation

EXCLUSIONS (for Emergency Trip Termination)

  1. Pregnancy and its complications
  2. Illness or disorders of psychological nature, nervous depressions, mental illness, sexually transmitted disease, AIDS, HIV infections, and AIDS related infections
  3. Suicide, attempted suicide, or intentionally self-inflicted injury
  4. Periodic control and observation examinations
  5. Failure to obtain required vaccinations before departure
  6. Alcohol or drug abuse
  7. Any cancellations resulting from Civil or Foreign war, riots, popular movements, any pre-existing conditions, terrorists acts, any effect of source of radioactivity, epidemics, pollution, natural catastrophes, and climatic events

RENTED CAR PROTECTION EXCLUSIONS

  1. Theft of the entire vehicle or its accessories or spare parts
  2. Any liability, bodily injury or property damage caused by and arising out of use of the rented car
  3. The corresponding deductible for each and every accident or occurrence
  4. Consequential loss, depreciation, wear and tear, mechanical or electrical breakdowns, failures or breakages
  5. Damage to tires unless the car is damaged at the same time
  6. Any malicious damage caused by insured, any member of his family or by a person in the insured's service
  7. While the rented car is driven other than by the authorized driver named in the car rental contract or agreement
  8. Any accident or damage to the rented car while being used otherwise than in accordance with what is stated in the rental contract or agreement

SPORTS COVERAGE

Only the benefits under coverage of Emergency Medical Treatment shall extend to cover the insured while engaged in winter sports, scuba diving, trekking, and mountain climbing, provided that the Insurer shall not pay the first PhP2,000 (for peso policy) or first US$50 (for dollar policy) for each and every occurrence.

GENERAL EXCLUSIONS (Applicable to all Benefits)

The insurance with respect to the above hazards shall not apply to:

  1. Loss caused directly or indirectly, wholly or partly by:
    1. Bacterial infections, viral infections, sickness or disease (except pyrogenic infections which shall occur through an accidental cut or wound); or infections caused by parasites. This exclusion does not apply to coverage on Emergency Medical Treatment and Daily Hospital Confinement provided that it occurs during the course of the travel and is not specifically excluded in the list of exclusions under Emergency Medical Treatment
    2. Medical or surgical treatment (except if necessary by reason of injuries covered by the policy and performed within the insurance period)
    3. Miscarriage or pregnancy
    4. AIDS or Sexually Transmitted Disease
  2. Suicide or attempted suicide (sane or insane)
  3. Murder or provoked assault or any attempt thereat
  4. Loss or injury caused by war, invasion, acts of foreign enemy, hostilities or warlike operations (whether declared or not), mutiny, strikes, riots, civil commotions, civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, conspiracy, military or usurped power, martial law or state of siege, seizure, quarantine, or customs regulations or nationalization by or under the order of any government or public or local authority, sabotage or terrorism. This exclusion shall not be affected by any endorsement which does not specifically refer to it, in whole or in part. The application of the exclusion referring to martial law or state of siege is hereby waived for any territorial jurisdiction of the Republic of the Philippines
  5. Cave of in mines
  6. Injury sustained while engaging in but not limited to mountaineering requiring the use of ropes or guides, skin diving employing the use of compressed cylinders, racing on wheels or horseback, skydiving from device for aerial navigation, hand gliding (Unless such activities have been declared to and accepted by the Insurer, subject to additional premium payment and affirmed by written endorsement)
  7. Injury sustained while participating in amateur or professional athletics, local sports leagues or international tournaments, or any organized and scheduled amateur physical contact sport
  8. Loss of life or injury sustained as a direct result of, in connection with or attributable to
    1. A commission of a crime or any attempt thereat
    2. Violation of rules and regulation on traffic and/or road use
    3. Avoiding arrest
    4. Any unlawful act (civil or criminal)
  9. Loss of life or injury sustained as a direct result of, in connection with or attributable to the insured being under the influence of prohibited/regulated drugs or alcohol
  10. Loss of life or injury sustained in the performance of duty relative to the following excluded occupations are not covered under the policy: actors, entertainers, models, mediamen, professional sportsmen/women, airline crew, pilots, airport maintenance ground crew, ambulance/paramedic services, ammunition, firework and explosives manufacturers, amusement arcade and fairground workers, zoo attendants, artist (excl. commercial), circus, zoo and wildlife park workers, cleaners of building exteriors, civil engineering contractors (e.g. blast furnace, bridge, chimney, dam dock, foundation, harbor, pier, piling, reservoir, road, structural steel, tower, tunnel , well, and wharf, construction, demolition, erection and maintenance, construction workers, railway track workers/maintenance personnel, foundry workers, roofers, quarry/sand and gravel pit workers, tree fellers, film cameramen, crew, stuntmen, haulers, international reporters and photographers, life assurance declinature, members of the Armed Forces (e.g. AFP, PNP, Navy, Marines, etc.), security guards, barangay tanods, firemen, merchant navy crews, oil rig workers or those regularly visiting oil rigs, persons declaring two or more accidents in past 5 years which would have generated claims under a Personal Accident policy, persons engaged in hazardous sports and pastimes (e.g. gliding, hang gliding and ballooning as a passenger, motor racing of any kind including stock car racing and carting, mountaineering, rock and cliff climbing using ropes or guides, parachuting, pot-holing and similar underground activities, power and speedboat racing, private flying as a pilot, skin diving or use of underwater breathing apparatus, etc.), persons residing or about to reside abroad, persons engaged in external works at high rise location (height in excess of 15m) such as steeplejacks, scaffolding crew, window cleaners, persons working below ground (e.g. coal miners and colliery engineers), persons working in or around docks and harbors (e.g. stevedores, dredger operators, wharf workers, tug operators), persons working under water (e.g. diving contractors, professional divers), persons working in boats or at sea (e.g. bargemen, seamen, fishermen with dangerous machinery or explosives), scrap dealers
  11. Loss or damage directly or indirectly caused by, or arising out of the wilful act or negligence of the insured or his representatives
  12. Nuclear radiation or radioactive contamination

CANCELLATION PROVISIONS

The policy may not be cancelled by the Insurer except upon prior notice thereof to the Insured, and no notice of cancellation shall be effective unless it is based on the occurrence, after the effective date of the policy, of one or more of the following:

  1. non-payment of premium;
  2. conviction of a crime arising out of acts increasing the hazard insured against;
  3. discovery of fraud or material misrepresentation;
  4. discovery of wilful or reckless acts or omissions increasing the hazard insured against;
  5. a determination by the Commissioner that the continuance of the policy would violate or would place the insurer in violation of the Insurance Code

All notice of cancellation shall be in writing, mailed or delivered to the Insured at the address shown in the policy, and shall state (a) which of the grounds set forth is relied upon and (b) that, upon written request of the Insured, the Insurer will furnish the facts on which the cancellation is based.

If the Insured cancels, earned premium shall be computed in accordance with the applicable percentage indicated below, but in no event less than the Company's customary minimum premium:

2 months (minimum) -------------- 40%

3 months ---------------------------- 50%

4 months ---------------------------- 60%

5 months ---------------------------- 70%

6 months ---------------------------- 75%

Over 6 months -------------------- 100%

In the event the Insured requests for the cancellation of the policy prior to its inception, a policy cancellation fee equivalent to 50% of the premium will be charged, unless the Insured provides a valid reason, acceptable to Malayan Insurance, for cancelling the policy.

This policy will also charge an earned premium equivalent to the percentage below, in the event the Insured requested for cancellation of a short term travel policy after the inception has already commenced:

For Short Term travel policy with policy period 30 days and below If cancellation is requested 6 days and below after inception of cover - 80% of the premium will be charged.
If cancellation is requested 7 days and above after inception of cover - 100% of the premium will be charged.
For Short Term travel policy with policy period more than 30 days but less than 60 days If cancellation is requested 6 days and below after inception of cover - 80% of the premium will be charged.
If cancellation is requested 7 days up to 20 days after inception of cover - 90% of the premium will be charged.
If cancellation is requested 21 days and above after inception of cover - 100% of the premium will be charged.
For Short Term travel policy with policy period 60 days and above, but less than 180 days If cancellation is requested 6 days and below after inception of cover - 70% of the premium will be charged.
If cancellation is requested 7 days up to 40 days after inception of cover - 80% of the premium will be charged.
If cancellation is requested 41 days up to 50 days above after inception of cover - 90% of the premium will be charged.
If cancellation is requested 51 days and above after inception of cover - 100% of the premium will be charged.
