Change your light bulbs:
Replace regular light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). CFLs last 10x longer, use 2/3 less energy and give 70% less heat.
-
Set room temperature to 25C:
Set your air conditioner to 25C. It will require 5-10% more energy when the temperature is set lower than 25C.
-
Turn off lights and electric appliances when not in use:
Turn off the lights when you leave a room or use only as much light as you need – switch off table and reading lamps when extra light is not needed. Turn off televisions, computers, audio equipment and other electric appliances when not in use. This will save electricity and reduce global warming.
-
Use your car less:
Instead of taking your car to work everyday, use public transportation or form a carpool with your co-workers. Reducing the number of cars on the road will reduce emissions and air pollution. When traveling a short distance, walk or ride a bicycle instead of driving. Besides saving gasoline, walking and biking are great forms of exercise.
-
Unplug electrical appliances when not in use:
Don't leave electrical appliances like televisions, computers, audio systems and mobile phone chargers plugged when not in use. These still consume energy even when turned off.
-
Check tire pressure:
Check your tire pressure once a month. Under-inflated tires burn 3% more fuel than the same vehicle normally would. Properly inflated tires can improve your car’s fuel efficiency.
-
Recycle:
Choose reusable products instead of disposables. Avoid products with excessive packaging. Whenever you can, recycle paper, plastic, newspaper, glass and aluminum cans. By recycling, you will send less trash to landfills and help save natural resources.
-
Plant trees:
Plant a tree. A single tree will absorb approximately one ton of carbon dioxide during its lifetime.
