Plan Features
What is Citi Card Protection Plan?
Citi Card Protection Plan is an optional credit card protection product that reimburses for fraudulent transactions on a cardholder’s credit card due to card loss or identify theft/cloning.
What is Card Loss?
Loss of the Insured Card due to negligence (excluding gross negligence), theft or robbery. It is also the unauthorized use of the Insured Card which resulted in unauthorized charges and expenses to obtain money, goods, or services.
What is Identity Theft?
Unauthorized use of personal data or documents relating to the identity of the Insured Cardholder, which results in their fraudulent use of the Insured Card to obtain money, goods or services including but not limited to electronic transfers.
What is fraudulent use?
Unauthorized use of the Insured Card which resulted in unauthorized charges and expenses to obtain money, goods, or services.
What is cloning?
The duplication or imitation of the Insured Card thru theft of card information.
What is Period of Insurance?
This is the period of validity of an insurance contract as shown in the Policy Schedule
What are the policy exclusions?
I. Card Loss
  • Claims in excess of amounts stated in the policy as limit per transaction or limit per annual term
  • Transactions involving the Insured Card that occur more than forty-eight (48) hours prior to notification to the Card Company.
  • Transactions where the Insured Cardholder uses the card in violation of the provisions of this Policy, including but not limited to the disclosure of the PIN or keeping it, even in coded format, with the Insured Card.
  • Claims for reimbursement of cash stolen or lost together with the Insured Card.
  • Claims for reimbursement of personal effects, such as purse or wallet, containing the Insured Card at the time of the Card Loss.
  • Erroneous delivery of a card by the administrator, the Card Company, its agents and carriers, when the card has been delivered to a person other than one to whom it was intended.
  • Claims for fraudulent transactions made after notice of Card Loss is submitted to the Card Company.
II. Cloning
  • Claims in excess of amounts stated in the policy as limit per transaction or limit per annual term.
  • Unauthorized transactions to the Insured Card more than thirty (30) days from statement date.
III. Identity Theft
  • Claims in excess of amounts stated in the policy as limit per transaction or limit per annual term.
  • Unauthorized transactions to the Insured Card more than thirty (30) days from statement date.
  • Expenses incurred as a result of identity theft
  • Loss of income as a result of identity theft
Exclusions Applicable to Fraudulent Use Coverage
  • Claims arising from the use of the Insured Card in violation of the provisions of this Policy, including but not limited to the disclosure of the PIN or keeping it, even in coded format, with the card;
  • Claims for any Loss arising from any business pursuits or theft of a commercial identity;
  • Authorized charges that the Insured Cardholder has disputed based on the quality of goods or services;
  • The amount of any claim which exceeds the Benefit Amount per transaction or in any policy year;
  • Authorized account transactions or trades that the Insured Cardholder has disputed, or is disputing, based on the execution (or non-execution) of electronic transfers, trades or other verbal or written instructions or directions;
  • Any Loss that was not incurred or did not commence during the Period of Insurance;
  • Any claim for reimbursement which is not supported by a police report where required by the Insurance Company;
  • Any claim where the Insured Cardholder can otherwise claim from the Card Company in the event that a prior arrangement with the bank has been given in relation to the issuance of the credit card.
This Policy does not cover:
  • The Insured Cardholder’s liability before the Card Company for improper use of the Insured Card by the Insured Cardholder, by a third party resident of his household, or by a direct relative up to the second degree of consanguinity or affinity.
  • Any amounts advanced for payment of hotel bills or return flight home tickets.
  • Any expense or damage not explicitly mentioned as losses reimbursable under this Policy.
  • Any fraudulent or groundless claim being unjustified according to this Policy, resulting in reimbursement of any amounts received by the Insured Cardholder from the Insurance Company.
  • Any replacement of lost ATM cash withdrawals.
The consequences of the following events are excluded from this Policy:
  • Those caused maliciously, whether directly or indirectly, by the Insured Cardholder.
  • Natural phenomena of extraordinary nature, such as floods, earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions, unusual cyclonic storms, fall of heavenly objects and aerolites, and in general any atmospheric, meteorological, seismic or geological phenomenon of an extraordinary nature.
  • Events due to terrorism, mutiny or popular revolts.
  • Acts or actions of the Armed Forces or Police Forces in times of peace.
  • Wars, with or without prior declaration, and any international conflicts or interventions with the use of force or coercion.
  • Those derived from radioactive nuclear power.
What happens if MAPFRE Insular Insurance Corporation needs to make changes in the Group Policy or premium?
MAPFRE Insular Insurance Corporation reserves the right to make changes or add to the Group policy terms and to change the premiums applicable:
  • for legal or regulatory reasons to reflect new industry guidance and codes of practices, and / or
  • to reflect legitimate costs increases or reductions associated with providing this Plan.
If changes become necessary, they will be applied to all the Group Policies issued under this plan. The changes will be communicated to the insured at least thirty (30) days in writing before changes are applied. The insured will then have the option to continue with, or to cancel the policy.
No change in, modification of, or assignment of interest under this Group Policy, nor waiver or alterations of provisions, conditions, and terms of this Group Policy shall be effective unless made by written endorsement to this policy duly executed on behalf of MAPFRE Insular Insurance Corporation and issued in accordance with the provisions of the Insurance Code of the Philippines.
What happens if MAPFRE Insular Insurance Corporation needs to make changes in the Policy or premium?

Eligibility
Who can enrol in Citi Card Protection Plan?
All active Citibank or Citibank Savings principal cardholders who are at least 21 years old and permanently residing in the Philippines may enrol in the Citi Card Protection Plan.
How long am I insured under the Plan?
Citi Card Protection is an annual insurance product. The Insured Cardholder's coverage will take effect when the first Citi Card Protection premium is successfully charged, and will remain in force for 12 months.

Application / Enrolment
How do I enrol for Citi Card Protection Plan?
Enrolment for the Plan will be allowed using any of the methods stated below:
  • Recorded Telephone enrollment via Citi Phone or through Citi telemarketing service provider
  • Signed Citibank's or Citibank Savings’ credit card application form
  • Signed enrollment form downloaded from Citi website transmitted by facsimile
  • Via online enrollment through Citibank Online
  • Via SMS enrollment through Citi mobile banking
Premium
How much is the premium?
The annual premium for Citi Card Protection Plan is PHP 895 per card account.
Payment
When will my coverage start?
The Insured Cardholder’s coverage will be activated once the premium has been paid; this takes effect after the first annual premium is successfully charged to an Insured Cardholder’s card.
How will I pay for my premiums?
Premiums will be charged to the Insured Cardholder's Citibank or Citibank Savings Credit Card once in each policy year.
What happens if subsequent premiums are not paid or not successfully charged to my credit card?
Non-payment of any subsequent premium within the grace period of thirty-one (31) days of the payment due date shall be a ground for cancellation of any insurance under this Plan, said cancellation being effective as of the due date of such unpaid premium.
How can I cancel my coverage?
The Insured Cardholder can cancel his coverage by calling:
  • For Citibank credit cardholders: 24-Hour CitiPhone at (632) 995-9999
  • For Citibank Savings credit cardholders : 24-Hour CitiPhone at (632) 995 1888
How will the premium refund be computed if I cancel my coverage?
The Insured cardholder will be entitled to a refund of the proportionate premiums computed in accordance with the applicable percentage indicated below, but in no event less than MAPFRE Insular Insurance Corporation’s minimum premium:

No, because Citi Card Protection is on a "per card account basis."
Renewal of Coverage
How is my coverage renewed?
The coverage will be renewed automatically for further consecutive periods since the premium will be automatically charged to the credit card.
MAPFRE Insular Insurance Corporation reserves the right to decline the renewal on the anniversary date of the policy upon a prior written notice mailed or delivered to the Insured Cardholder's address forty five (45) days before the anniversary date.
End Of Coverage
What happens to the premiums paid after cover ends?
If premiums are paid after cover ends or after it is cancelled, the premiums will be refunded. However, the Insured Cardholder needs to pay any outstanding premiums not paid while the policy was still in force.
Beneficiaries/ To Whom Benefits Are Payable
Who is the beneficiary of the benefits payable under Citi Card Protection?
Where a claim payment is made by MAPFRE Insular Insurance Corporation, the beneficiary will be as follows:
  • Card Loss (Unauthorized Use of Card as a result of Card Loss) - Benefits will be paid directly to Citibank or Citibank Savings in order to refund the Insured Cardholder's Card.
  • Identity Theft (Unauthorized Use of the Insured Cardholder's Card as a result of Identity Theft/Cloning - Benefits will be paid directly to Citibank or Citibank Savings in order to refund the Insured Cardholder's Card.
Claims
What are the conditions in filing a claim?
  • Inform the Card Company as soon as possible on discovering the loss of the Insured Card or when the Insured Cardholder's identity may have been stolen and/or used for fraudulent purposes.
  • Submit the original police report of the Card Loss subject to reimbursement according to this Policy.
  • For Fraudulent Use due to Card Loss - The report must be filed as soon as possible after the loss occurs or after the Insured Cardholder discovers the theft or loss of the Insured Card to a relevant authority having jurisdiction where the Card Loss occurred.
  • For Cloning and Identity Theft - The report must be filed within thirty (30) days from credit card statement date to the Card Company. The report must indicate the date and exact time of occurrence of the incident.
  • Submit the original receipts of the Card Company indicating the Fraudulent Use of the Insured Card such as the amounts and their respective date and time. The Insured Cardholder must keep receipts, bills and other records received from third parties involved in the claim to prove the amount of any loss or expenditure.
  • Provide supporting documents, receipts, certificates and reports to justify both the occurrence of events and the incurred expenses covered under this Policy.
  • Provide the original report of lost or stolen card, credit card statements covering the transactions and amounts claimed, and proof of cancellation by the Card Company (date and time of communication).
What happens if I commit fraud?
If the Insured Cardholder or anyone acting on behalf of the Insured Cardholder:
  • applies for a cover for any person other than the insured, or;
  • provide information to be false, or;
  • applies for access to information not legally entitled to, or;
  • makes a claim under the Group Policy knowing the claim to be false or fraudulently exaggerated in any respect, or;
  • 5. makes a statement in support of a claim knowing the statement to be false in any respect, or submit a document in support of a claim knowing the document to be forged or false in any respect, or makes a claim with the intent to defraud MAPFRE Insular Insurance Corporation.

    then
    • the claim will not be honoured;
    • any other claim made under this Group Policy will not be honoured;
    • there will be no return of payments made for cover and, at the option of MAPFRE Insular Insurance Corporation, it may cancel the policy;
    • MAPFRE Insular Insurance Corporation may be entitled to recover the cost of any claim already paid under the policy (if necessary, the cost may be recovered through the instigation of court proceedings);
    • MAPFRE Insular Insurance Corporation may be entitled to recover the cost of any investigation into a fraudulent claim under the policy (if necessary, the cost may be recovered through the instigation of court proceedings);
    • MAPFRE Insular Insurance Corporation may inform the police, government, or any regulatory bodies of the circumstances revolving around the fraudulent act.
How do I file for a claim?
You may call CitiPhone Banking at (632) 995 9999 for Citibank credit cardholders or (632) 995 1888 for Citibank Savings credit cardholders.
A CitiPhone Officer will advise you of the documentary requirements you need to complete. A claim form can be accessed via www.citibank.com.ph/citicardprotect; you must complete and submit the same to MAPFRE Insular Insurance Corporation within fourteen (14) days together with all documentary requirements for the claim.
What are the documents required to file a claim?
For claims for reimbursements due to unauthorized transactions made within forty-eight (48) hours following Card Loss or due to unauthorized transactions as a result of identity theft/cloning reported within 30 days from card statement date, the Insured Cardholder needs to submit the following to the Insurance Company:
  • Duly accomplished Notification of claim form
  • Copy of insured card statement showing details of unauthorized transaction/s
  • Copy of police report detailing the card crime
  • Copy of valid government issued ID with picture and signature
How long does it take to settle my claim?
The claim shall be settled within thirty (30) days after all required documentations are received by MAPFRE Insular Insurance Corporation. If, however, ascertainment of the loss is not had or made within sixty (60) days after receipt of required documentation, the claim will be paid ninety (90) days after such receipt. Refusal or failure to pay the claim within the prescribed time will entitle the Insured Cardholder to collect interest on the proceeds of the policy for the duration of the delay at the rate twice the ceiling prescribed by the Philippine Monetary Board, unless such failure or refusal to pay is based on the ground that the claim is fraudulent.
What happens if a claim is rejected and an action or suit is not commenced either in the Insurance Commission or in any court of competent jurisdiction within twelve (12) months from receipt of rejection notice by the Insured Cardholder?
Such claim shall be deemed to have been abandoned and shall not thereafter be recoverable hereunder.
